But Peloton said the products and Lululemon’s designs are easy to distinguish, and Lululemon’s designs are too “obvious” to deserve patent protection.

“In addition to the many clear and obvious differences in design, the Peloton and Lululemon brands and logos are also distinctive and well-recognized, making product confusion a practical impossibility,” said Peloton.

The peloton will have a court declaration that it has not infringed Lululemon patents and commercial clothing, and that Lululemon’s patent claims are invalid.

“At Lululemon, we are known for our product innovation and iconic design,” Lululemon said in a statement Friday. “We will defend our property rights, to protect the integrity of our brand, and to protect our intellectual property.”
