Chaos broke out on a Delta flight to Baltimore Monday when one of the aircraft's engines failed midway, leading to a high boom and forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing, passengers and the airline said.
Some of the 148 people aboard aircraft 1425 said they heard the loud noise and smoke into the cabin about an hour after starting from Atlantas Hartfield-Jackson International.
"It was when we really started freaking out," Avery Porch, who sat next to his girlfriend, Tyler Kreuger, told WMAR Baltimore.
"I was about to be the first person to jump off," added Porch. "I was like," Oh, my gosh, this is a 30-something pound door. I'm going to throw it in the seat and jump off and actually help people out. »
Her boyfriend said he started to fear the worst.
"I pulled out my phone and I know I didn't have service," Kreuger said. "I just wrote my mother," I love you, "I wrote to my father," I love you. ""
Another traveler, Jose Bahamonde-Gonzalez, said that the captain came on the speaker and said "we had lost an engine and that they were preparing for emergency landing."

In a statement to ABC News, Delta said that the flight crew had received "an indication of a possible problem with one of the aircraft engines."
