Paris binds Singapore, Hong Kong as the world's most demanding cities

SINGAPORE – Paris has climbed to the top of the world's pricyest city for aliens, tied first with Singapore and Hong Kong according to a survey Tuesday which called the capital of the war-torn Venezuela as the cheapest [19659003] The French capital was the only euro area city in the top 10, rising from second most expensive last year and from seventh position two years ago.
Paris is "extremely expensive to live in" with an average two-piece business dress for men who put buyers back around $ 2000 and a typical woman's hairstyle costs $ 1[ads1]20, found it.
Only "alcohol, transport and tobacco" provide value for money compared to other European cities, the survey said.
The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) said it was the first time in the more than three decades of the survey that 3 cities were ranked as top, after Singapore led the chart straight out a year earlier.
The top ten list was dominated by Asian and European cities, with Osaka and Seoul in joint fifth and joint seventh places respectively, and Zurich (4th), Geneva (joint 5th) and Copenhagen (joint 7) also in the elite club .
North America was represented by the American cities of New York, seventh and Los Angeles, tied to Israel's Tel Aviv.
Currency Evaluation, Inflation and Devaluation as well as Political Rebellion played a role in this year's rankings, EIU said, examining 133 cities worldwide.
It compared 400 individual prices across 160 products and services, including food and beverage, clothing, home rental, transportation, schooling and recreation.
The survey is aimed at helping companies calculate compensation packages and allowances for posted employees and business travelers.
Caracas fell Damascus as the world's cheapest city in the midst of a power struggle in Venezuela that pushed the country into a deeper crisis.
"As Damascus and Caracas show, an increasing number of places are beco Ming cheaper because of the impact of political or economic disruption," EIU said.
Asia's economic division was underlined, with cities such as Bangalore (129), Karachi (127), Chennai (125) and New Delhi (123rd) bottom.
"Simply put, cheaper cities also tend to be less alive," EIU said.
