One of the world's largest aluminum companies is currently undergoing a cyber attack
Norwegian aluminum company Hydro said that almost all IT systems are down because of an "extensive" attack that started on Monday night and continues.
Background: The company is one of the largest aluminum and renewable energy companies in the world, with approx. 35,000 people in about 50 different countries.
Communication lines: The company's website is down, so it currently uses Facebook as its primary means of communication. It said most of the IT systems have been affected, but the power plants normally run on isolated systems.
Security Measures: In a post, Hydro said the attacks did not harm anyone, even though they "affected operations in several of the company's business areas globally." If possible, it had to switch to manual operation.
Early Days: Hydro said it is too early to assess the source, influence or scope of the attack, but it has contacted all relevant authorities and will provide updates as soon as possible.
