One busted to steal hundreds of liters of cooking fat from Burger King
NAND, Va. – The police say a central Virginia man joined a garden from Burger King: hundreds of liters of used fat.
But he couldn't give the police ground and now meets grand Larceny charges.
News outlets report Alvaro Mendez Flores of Richmond admitted to April 4 theft. The court documents say Mendez Flores supported his book car to the fat dumper at the Annandale Shopping Center and used a hose to start seeping the used oil into a 1,600 gallon tank.
Food fat can be used to make biodiesel fuel. Fat thieves have increased as biodiesel prices have increased. The police noted six such thefts in Fairfax County over the past year.
Mendez Flores told the police that he would be paid 25 cents a gallon for the stolen oil.
