North Carolina mechanic wins $ 10M with lottery scratch card, immediately goes and donates to St. Jude
He bought the $ 30 Colossal Cash ticket at the Berea Mini Mart in Oxford after performing a daily track.
"Left home. Went to carry the garbage to landfill. I thought I'll buy myself a ticket," said Theodore Duncan at ceremonial check presentation at the North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters in Raleigh.
Duncan said he always scratches up only the top of each circle to reveal the number to see if he has a fight.
If yes, then he scratches the bottom to reveal the prize.
In this case he saw a dollar sign, so he knew he won something.
"I said, at least I won my money back on the ticket. I scratched it and it was $ 1[ads1]0 million. I just said – I looked at myself and said," I won. I won. I won. & # 39; & # 39;
The room, filled with lottery staff and media representatives, broke out in laughter.
Duncan continued to entertain the audience with his responses as when asked if he was still working.
"I've just retired. I've been working since I was about 15 years old. I've just retired."
He pointed out that he liked his job as a mechanic and hopes someone deserves to take it over.
"There is a reason I retired. Someone else needs a job, hopefully they will get it, because I had a good job, very good job. I worked for a good company," said the 52-year-old.
He will take home $ 4.6 million after tax on a lump sum payment.
He plans to buy a new home with a pool and some nice gifts for his children, grandchildren and brothers.
When the ceremony was over and everyone was about to leave Duncan, held his hand and said he would say one more thing.
"I'm planning to donate $ 100,000 to St. Jude's," he announced.
It caused many sugars and an applause round.
