The job gains were quite wide.
The health service led by 49,000 new workers, professional and technical services increased 34,000 and food and drink activities contributed 27,000. Construction increased by 16,000, but production lost 6,000 jobs.
The figures came one month after February's increase in the fall of just 20,000, which was revised up to 33,000 in the March report. January's large 311,000 increase was also pushed up to 312,000, leading to an average gain of 180,000 over the past three months. It remains solid below the average monthly gain of 233,000 for the entire 2018.
