HAMPTON FALLS, NH (AP) – A New Hampshire man was placed second in an innovation competition after painting a surfboard out of hundreds of used Dunkin & Donuts coffee cups.
Thirty-two-year-old Korey Nolan of Hampton Falls spent seven months collecting the cups for a contest put on by the surf brand Vissla called Creators and the Innovators Upcycle Contest. Portsmouth Herald reports Nolan's table is made of 700 cups.
Nolan also used more than 30 plastic rolls and other materials in his board, which placed others out of 15 finalists. Most cups came from family members who gave them to Nolan, although some were picked up from the roadside.
The heralds reported that Nolan compressed the raw materials together and finished the tray using bamboo, epoxy, fiberglass, fiberboard and Masonite compression molding. He says it "runs well."
