NBCUniversal was able to launch outstanding streaming service by 2020
NBCUniversal is a member of the streaming wars and announces that it will launch its own standalone streaming service by 2020.
An ad-supported version of the streaming service will be free for NBC TV subscribers in the United States and will also be made available to Comcast Cable and Sky subscribers internationally as well. Paid versions of the app, which include an ad-free version for non-advertising, will also be available for $ 12.99, according to a CNBC report. This will allow line cutters that do not subscribe to NBC to access the streaming service as well.
Like the CBS All Access, NBCUniversal's streaming service offers original subscriber programming along with its titles directory. Shows such as 30 Rock and The Good Place will be available to stream through NBCUniversal's service, hypothetically. Other series, which and Friends sent on NBC in the 90s, but technically owned by Warner Bros., may not be available to stream. NBCUniversal will continue to license content to other studios and platforms while retaining the rights to specific titles for its new service. "It is unclear what they show may be at this time. 30 Rock for example, is currently available at Hulu.
NBCUniversal also has a 30 percent stake in Hulu. Analysts started speculating in 201[ads1]8 NBCUniversal wanted to sell its stake in Hulu to Disney, which took 60 percent majority control of the platform after the acquisition of Fox, yet Comcast, NBCUniversal's parent company, brought on three NBC executives as board members for Hulu in September 2018, suggesting that the company was not willing to sell his bet yet.Hulu recently announced that it has over 25 million subscribers alone in the US, which is about half of Netflix's current US $ 58 million subscriber base. If Disney achieves total control, the goal is to bring Hulu to an international audience and increase their subscriber count along with new content.
Other companies such as Warner Bros., AT & T and Disney, set out to launch their own standalone breastfeeding services later this year. All three companies rely on their own directories and standalone, exclusive subscriber listings and compete with mega streaming services such as Hulu and Netflix.
Comcast and NBCUniversal were able to continue licensing content to platforms such as Netflix and Hulu while retaining their hand in Hulu and developing new original content for their own streaming service. More information is expected to be announced under Comcast's investors call January 23.
There is no launch window for the platform beyond 2020.
