Who can resist a sandwich – especially if it’s free?
November 3rd marks National Sandwich Day (yes, that’s a thing.) That means it’s time to shine a spotlight on the humble meal that’s probably most appreciated by kids, parents, and professional workers alike for being a quick and easy way to to fill the stomach.
The origins of the sandwich go back centuries. It was popularized in 18th century England by John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, who ordered sliced beef between slices of bread so that he could eat while continuing to play cards.
Some 260 years later, the convenient meal is consumed worldwide, and in America it is honored with its own day.
But even though National Sandwich Day is still not an actual holiday, many restaurant chains are handing out deals and freebies on sandwich orders.
Subway: Customers who purchase a foot-long sub can get one free with promo code FLBOGO on Subway.com or the Subway app.
And if you’re going to be up in the air today, Subway is giving away 10,000-foot-long Subway Series submarines to middle-seat “sandwiched” travelers as part of a new contest.
Popeyes: Buy a Chicken Sandwich combo (classic or spicy) and get another sandwich free through the chain’s app or website. The agreement only applies to collection and delivery of mobile orders.
Panera Bread: The chain is offering new and existing MyPanera members $1 off a sandwich. This deal is only available for in-app purchases.
