MoviePass reports data breach, customer credit card numbers may be exposed

(CNN) – MoviePass says some customer records may have been compromised during a recent data breach.

Tech Crunch reports that the movie ticket subscription service confirmed a security breach that occurred because a critical server was not password protected.

The breach affected tens of thousands of customers and exposed their MoviePass cards and their personal credit card information.

MoviePass has not confirmed the number of customers that have been affected.

MoviePass cards are essentially debit cards that customers use to pay for movies in theaters.

The company says the system is safe again and it will continue to disclose information about the incident.
