More than 300 workers will be dismissed at the North Carolina facility
A Connecticut-based furniture manufacturer plans to lay down nearly 400 workers at factories in North Carolina and New Jersey. Asheville Citizen Times reports Ethan Allen Interiors said in a press release that it will add 325 employees from the Old Fort manufacturing facility, North Carolina and 55 employees in Passaic, New Jersey. The company says that the Old Fort plant will be converted into a distribution center. It will keep the logging facility there, while about half of its production of goods will be consolidated at two factories in Vermont. At the same time, the company plans to add 80,000 square meters on its wooden construction camp in the Maiden. In his annual report, Ethan Allen said it has about 5,200 employees. It is unclear how many of the employees work in Old Fort.
