Mohegan Sun says MGM Springfield is hurting profits

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – (AP) – Mohegan Sun reports that MGM's new casino in Massachusetts takes a bit out of its profits.

The company reported on Thursday that net revenues at its flagship Connecticut casino dropped about three percent in the quarter, which ended September 30th.

Mohegan Sun, who also runs a casino in Pennsylvania, said the Uncasville Casino dropped $ 275 million down from $ 284 million in the same period last year. Revenues from operations fell 22 percent from 71 million dollars in the same period last year to 55 million dollars.

The company acknowledged that "New Competition in the New England Region" was a factor, although it said that the impact has been "in-line" to slightly better than expected. "

MGM Springfield opened near the Connecticut line this August as Massachusetts's first resort casino.
