Metro-North Danger trips set to take effect
Some Metro-North riders will see that their tours become more expensive as an advertised MTA tariff and price increase comes into effect on Sunday.
A near 4 percent price increase was approved by MTA officials earlier this year, but it won't affect rides west of Hudson on the Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines. These riders were reported spared due to a year filled with disabled and interrupted trains in the Hudson Valley.
The new tickets will kick in on Sunday 21 April.
Commuters buying a monthly ticket, now over $ 460, use the Hudson line from Poughkeepsie, New Hamburg and Beacon, seeing no increase either. Monthly and weekly ticket buyers will see an increase of no more than 3.85 percent and there will be no increase for weekly tickets of $ 1[ads1]47 or more.
The increases are expected to come into effect in March, marking the seventh increase since 2008. Metro-North has also moved its morning peak restrictions by one hour, allowing customers to pay top prices for any arrival or departure at Grand Central Terminal before 6am
According to MTA:
- For monthly and weekly commuters, prices will increase by no more than 3.85 percent. Monthly ticket increases will not exceed $ 15.00. Weekly ticket increases will not exceed $ 5.75;
- Intermediate monthly and weekly ticket increases are also capped at 3.85 percent. Some one-way costs will only have greater increases because fares must occur in 25-cent steps. For these one-way costs, an increase of over 6 percent will be no more than 50 cents per trip;
- There is no increase for monthly tickets that is greater than or equal to $ 460.00;
- There is no increase for Weekly tickets greater than or equal to $ 147.00;
- Monthly / Weekly UniTicket with connection services will increase by about 4 percent;
- Monthly Commuting tickets will be available for sale on the 25th of last month, beginning April 25, 2019, so if you buy your monthly ticket for May, it will not be on sale until April 25;
- There is no increase for Family Fare tickets;
- City fare will increase by 25 cents to $ 4.50;
- Effective May 1, for all tickets on the Metro-North Railroad, $ 50 MetroCards will no longer be available for your monthly commuting ticket;
- Ticket offices and ticket machines continue to offer a $ 5.50 Metro card back card, and a standalone $ 25 MetroCard can be purchased on the machine.
