(CNN) – Macy's draws a line of porcelain plates that spoke for smaller portion sizes, not because of the message, but because of how it was conveyed.
The plates jokingly suggested portion sizes for "skinny jeans," "favorite jeans" and "mama jeans." Author and TV host Alie Ward found the joke tasteless when she saw the plates in the Macy's flagship New York store .
She tweeted a picture of them, which led to rage on social media.
During hours, Macy's said it missed the mark on the product and the plates would be removed from the stores.
The company behind the design, "Pourtions," has similar messages throughout the range of crockery, including bowls, wine and spirits.
Its president says that their products are meant as "a quirky roof of the important issue of sharing control."
