CHENANGO (WBNG) – Shoppers will soon say goodbye to another Southern Tier store chain.
The Kansas-based company announced last week, closing the Payless Shoesource stores its remaining stores in the US and Puerto Rico.
"I have many shoes and I always shop for shoes," said Patty Lovuolo, Chenango Forks. "So yes, I will miss them. They have a wide selection, people are friendly and convenience and sales."
A spokesperson for the company sent 12 News section of this statement:
"We expect that all stores should be open at least in late March, and the majority remain open until May, this process does not affect the company's franchise operations or its Latin American stores, which remain open to business as usual. "
" I think it's just so much competition now between online and stores like DSW, "said Binghamton resident Emily Wood. "I guess I'm not totally surprised that they've ended."
Woods daughters say it's a place they'll definitely miss.
"They have offers there and it's not that expensive, and you can get a lot of shoes for not a lot of money," said Miley Wood.
"They always have only good styles and things, and I just look through and I'm like," I want it and I want it "and then just be a bummer because now we're just going somewhere else that is farther away, says Maisy Wood, from Binghamton.
