Open t the Uber or Lyft app when you have come and boarded the plane In the terminal, the app will provide travelers with instructions on how to summon a ride, airport officials said.
Get out of the terminal and board one of the light-green shuttles to the pickup department, as well as a short walk from terminal 1, 2 , 7 and 8.
If you take a taxi, you can board a shuttle or go to the pickup area, where there will be a cab.
No. Uber and Lift Vehicles can still drop you off at any point minal for a departure flight, as they have done in recent years.
How long will the shuttle take?
Shuttles arrive every three to five minutes. The longest trip on the shuttle will be from terminal 1, which will take about 15 minutes.
To speed up travel times for the shuttle bus, the airport converts the inner lanes of the arrival level to buses only. You should "reliably" be in Uber, Lyft or taxi within half an hour of leaving the terminal, even when traffic is most congested, said Keith Wilschetz, Deputy Director of Los Angeles World Airports, the city agency that operates LAX.
If the inside sidewalks are for buses, where do I pick up my friends and family?
You should pick up your friends and family on the median between the inner and outer lanes of the arrival level, the area where people previously waited for the FlyAway bus and other shuttles.
Drivers should pull up to the curb and stop, just as they did under the old system. The airport has expanded the medians there to accommodate more people, said airport spokesman Heath Montgomery.
How is the pickup area?
The pickup area is part of a car park just east of LAX's Terminal 1. It has been transformed into a square with bathrooms, umbrellas and telephone charging stations. The area will also have food trucks that run from 5am to 1am
LAX calls the pickup area "LAX-it" (pronounced "LA Exit").
Can I go to the pickup area?
Yes. The wait is a three-minute walk from Terminal 1, and a seven- or eight-minute walk from Terminal 2, 7 and 8. The airport has expanded some sidewalks and posted signage to help you find your way.
Does the party have enough space?
The lot has a capacity of up to 2,600 vehicles per hour, Montgomery said. The airport expects peak demand to be around 1500 vehicles per hour.
The pickup lot has a number of queues where up to 93 Uber and Lyft cars can load passengers simultaneously. A nearby area can accommodate 40 taxis.
Uber told the airport in a letter this month that it was concerned that the party did not have enough capacity. Drivers for Uber pick up an average of 500 riders per hour at LAX, and during the busiest parts of the week, that figure has more than doubled, the company said.
Airport officials said they have done "extensive traffic modeling" and are confident that the pickup department will have enough capacity.
Will the shuttles come to people with disabilities?
Customer service representatives will be at every shuttle to help people on board, the airport says. The front end of the shuttles is lowered to the curb, so people in wheelchairs can roll directly on board, Montgomery said.
The shuttle is equipped with wheelchair straps. The bathrooms and boarding areas on the waiting area are built on a flat floor with no stairs, ramps or curbs.
"We want it to be ADA-friendly, not just meet the bare level of law," Wilschetz said. "We want to make sure that everyone with disabilities has not only an acceptable experience but a really good experience."
Will anyone help me with my luggage?
Employees will be present 18 hours a day to answer questions and assist passengers in lifting and storing luggage, strollers and other bulky items at the terminal. Employees will work around the clock in the retrieval department and can help with unloading, the airport said.
How long will these changes last?
The pickup system will be in place until LAX finishes building an elevated flight train, which is scheduled to open in 2023.
The People mover will arrive every two minutes and will whip passengers between terminals, a car rental facility, a ground transport hub and a metro station.
