State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart cousins welcomed the backbone by naming her No. 2, beds Michael Gianaris (D-Queens), to a board that could block the controversial $ 3 billion Amazon deal.
As proof that her democratic conference will not be a rubber stamp for Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Stewart-Cousins nominated Gianaris, an early and vocal critic of the Amazon Agreement, to the State Control Committee, a panel of five members that one can vote blocking a publicly funded project that comes before it.
Gianaris, a one-time Cuomo ally, describes the process behind the Amazon agreement as "backwards" because it kept the audience in the dark while one of the country's richest companies called the shots.
Instead of simply refusing to sit on Gianaris, gov now speaks for somehow that the finalization of PACB to get the deal approved by another entity. It can work to get $ 500 million in infrastructure financing, but it seems PACB still has to approve major usage issues.
Here's the case: Gianaris opposes the Amazon agreement for the right reasons ̵
Stewart-Cousins said Gianaris "will bring an important perspective and responsibility to this board as it undergoes many projects." That's exactly what is needed on All these Governor's projects.
Posten has largely exposed waste to Cuomo's "AndyLand" economic development budgets. His signature Buffalo Billion program ended in producing corruption performances by some of his closest associates. Nevertheless, gov resists all the press for openness, overview and responsibility.
So it is very good to see that the new Senate leadership is unable to declare its independence.
