Kotex remembers some tampons after unraveling & # 39; reports and & quot; pieces left in the body & # 39;
Kimberly-Clark issued a voluntary recall yesterday for some of their U from Kotex tampons, among reports from their consumers "unraveling and / or apart from removal", according to a statement on their website.
The recalled reclamed U is from the Kotex Slim Regular Absorbency Tampons, currently sold in the US and Canada and limited to those produced before October 16, 2018, according to U at Kotex's website. You can check if the tampons you purchased are recalled by entering the lot number (found on the box) in a piece of the website.
The US Food and Drug Administration also posted a complete list of product codes for products affected by the recall on their site here.
The recall was initiated after the reports of unraveling or apart from the consumers, "and in some cases causes users to seek medical help to remove the remaining bodypieces," according to the company's website.
"There have also been a small number of reports of infections, vaginal irritation, localized vaginal injury and other symptoms," the statement on the website added.
ABC News Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jennifer Ashton, an Ob-Gyn, told "Good Morning America" to leave foreign bodies in the body can cause infection.
"In gynecology we have a saying: The vagina is like a self-cleaning furnace, which means that it is constantly blowing out bacteria or other particles," says Ashton. "However, if larger pieces of cotton are left, it is possible to develop an infection similar to that seen with a retained "foreign body." "
"Women who have abnormal discharge, bleeding or pain should see healthcare professionals," she added.
Kimberly-Clark launched a full FAQ page related to the recall of consumers here.
