Keurig Dr Pepper draws bottled water from shelves after high levels of arsenic discovered
Keurig Dr Pepper announced Friday it will voluntarily withdraw Peñafiel mineral water from store shelves over arsenic pollution.
Keurig Dr Pepper removes Peñafiel from shelves in Walmart and Target, and customers are offered a full refund for any product you have, USA Today reported.
"Water quality tests of Peñafiel samples conducted by an independent laboratory on behalf of Keurig Dr Pepper discovered arsenic at levels that exceeded [Food and Drug Administration’s] the bottled water standard for mineral water at 10 [parts per billion]" According to a business report. The Environmental Health Center released in June its discovery of "high levels of toxic metal arsenic in Starkey Water, owned by Whole Foods, and Penafiel, owned by Keurig Dr Pepper, bottled into Mexico and sold to Target. "However, this may not be the first discovery of arsenic in Peñafiel water." learned about high levels of arsenic in a brand of bottled water owned by Keurig Dr Pepper as early as 2013, "according to Consumer Reports in April. It took this conclusion after obtaining FDA documents through the Freedom Act.
Although arsenic is a naturally occurring chemical commonly found in groundwater, consuming too much can have serious consequences. "Arsenic poisoning can cause major health complications and death if not treated," according to Medical News Today.
"Keurig Dr Pepper has recently installed improved filtering systems at its plants that produce Peñafiel, and the product now being produced is well within regulatory guidelines," according to the company's press release.
