JOLTS report: A record number of workers quit their jobs in September
The country has regained the vast majority of jobs lost in the earliest months of the pandemic, but still has over 4 million fewer jobs than it did in February 2020. Economists have seen the return to full employment as a major milestone, but labor shortages, increasing case volumes from the delta variant, supply chain problems and other wrinkles have emerged to complicate this recovery. The high turnover level among employees increases the disproportion, as jobs with lower wages become increasingly difficult to fill because workers in these occupations find alternatives.
