Taco Bell fans are apparently so addicted to the Mexican fast food chain brand that they do not just patronize their places on the usual artery-tight tacos and nachos. The company also felt that the brand has enough of a result that it decided to open a Taco Bell Hotel this August in Palm Spring, Calif. It will be a very real hotel and resort infused with the brand through everything from a gift shop selling Taco Bell-themed clothing to Taco Bell-inspired rooms and even a salon offering Taco Bell-inspired art.
Most unlikely for anyone, reservations for the new hotel opened today. And sold out in just two minutes.
If you head to the new hotel website, you will be greeted with the following message: "You just missed it! All the rooms are SOLD . But you can still be part of the experience from home." fans are then encouraged to sign up for updates on hotel-related updates, exclusive goods and more from The Bell Hotel.
Again, all that for a Taco Bell-themed hotel. What is the world coming to?
In fact, there was so much demand when reservations opened on Thursday that problems started to appear less than a minute into the process. By CNBC the website was quickly overwhelmed by the demand, and some users were greeted by a "higher than normal traffic" excuse message and told them to "keep your crossed fingers on that update button".
Making this even more extraordinary, Taco Bell's hotel will have a very short existence. It's really just taking over the V Palm Springs hotel and will only be open from August 8 to August 1
In a statement about the overwhelming fan reactor to the idea of a Taco Bell hotel, the chain's chief global brand manager Marisa Thalberg had this to say: "Taco Bell fans are truly outstanding and today were it one of the best expressions of that fandom yet. "
