The police are further investigating this incident.
DTE has issued a fraud notification and offers some tips if a person comes home to you claiming to be a DTE employee.
Before you allow anyone who claims to work for DTE access to your home:
Request identification. All DTE Electric and DTE Gas employees and contractors have image identification cards and are required to display their badge if asked. If you are unsure of an employee's identification or would like to verify the nature of the work to be done at your home, call DTE Customer Service at 800.477.4747.
Don't let people get into your home like: [19659008] • Requirement to offer DTE Electric or DTE Gas refund. Our employees never deliver cash or discounts to their customers' homes.
• Required to sell DTE Electric or DTE Gas products or services. DTE employees do not engage door-to-door sales for gas and electrical services. DTE Gas sometimes sells door-to-door to Home Protection Plan services, but only employees who have an image ID.
• Attempt to collect a bill payment. DTE does not collect or accept payments on the customers' home or business.
DTE encourages customers to call the police if you believe that the person at your door is a worker's context.
