Hulu acquires AT & T's ownership, leaving Comcast and Disney as owners
AT&T said it would use the money to "reduce its debt."
Between this and Disin's acquisition of key Fox assets, the Hulu joint venture is down to just two companies, Disney and Comcast. It's not exactly how this affects the ownership, but Disney already had a majority of 60 percent while Comcast had a 30 percent stake. This further consolidates the power and can affect what is shown on the service, not to mention bundles and other strategies to increase the footprint.
Not that you couldn't see this coming. AT & Ts WarnerMedia develops its own streaming service, and it is expected to behave like Hulu ̵[ads1]1; only with emphasis on its own features such as Warner Bros., HBO and Turner. A financial stake in a competing service can easily be problematic. This helps AT & T avoid conflicts of interest and focus on its own plans.
