Huawei's founder says he would "protest" if China retaliates against Apple over US trade bans

Earlier this month, Trump administration let Huawei go to a black blacklist of national security issues, effectively banning US companies doing business with the Chinese smartphone and telecoms.

As a trade war between the United States and China continues to escalate, it has been suggested that China could repay the Huawei ban by enforcing a similar ban on a large American company such as Apple. But even Huawei's own founder, Ren Zhengfei, admitted he would oppose such a move and praised the iPhone manufacturer.

Speaking through a translator, Ren told Bloomberg that Apple is both "the world's leading company" and its "teacher":

It does not happen first and foremost. And secondly, if that happens, I'll be the first to protest. Apple is the world's leading company. If there were no Apple, there would be no mobile internet. If there were no Apple to help us show the world, we wouldn't see the beauty of this world. Apple is my teacher ̵[ads1]1; it goes ahead in front of us. As a student, why should I oppose my teacher? I would never do that.

Last year, investment company Goldman Sachs was warned that Apple's earnings per share could take 29 percent, if China ceased to import its products.

Ren experienced Huawei ruling despite the US trade ban, suggesting that the company would throw up its internal technologies if necessary. Huawei is already designing its own Kirin processors for some smartphones, but it relies on ARM, which deleted the ties with Huawei after the US trade ban.
