Huawei Prohibition: Full timeline on how and why phones are under fire

Huawei now makes some of the biggest waves in the wireless industry. It is the world's No. 1 telecom supplier and No. 2 smartphone maker. Still, there is a paria in several countries, including the United States, to the point that the FBI apparently put a sting on CES 2019.

The Chinese telecommunications giant may have run into its biggest problem yet in 2019. At the end of January, the United States saw the Justice Department unsealed allegations that included 23 counts on the alleged theft of intellectual property, the prevention of justice and fraud related to the alleged excuse of US sanctions against Iran.

The core issue of Huawei has been concerned about its well-being with the Chinese government and fears that the equipment can be used to spy on other countries and companies. That is why the US banned the companies from using Huawei networking equipment in 201[ads1]2 and the company was added to the US Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security Entity List on May 15 after an executive order from President Donald Trump effectively bans Huawei from US communications networks.

Over the past few months, there has been a rise in Huawei with a number of countries banning the use of network equipment. Therefore, its smartphones are almost invisible in the United States despite the massive presence around the world.

Huawei, for its part, has long denied any misdemeanor and continues to maintain its innocence through the latest charges.

It can be difficult to keep up with the large number of headlines, so let's put what happened in 2018 and 2019 on a practical timeline. We have put the 2019 events first, with 2018 below if you want to dive deeper.
