The new public V3 booths are opened to the public just three short months after Tesla first announced the new 250kW charging standard. </p>
<p>  Tesla reached us with news about the new stations and added some color to what this means for specific charging times for each vehicle in the fleet. </p>
<ul>
<li>  A model 3 with slow battery will be able to add 180 miles in just 15 minutes of charging on a V3 drive. </li>
<li>  A model S will add up to 130 miles in 15 minutes. </li>
<li>  A model X will add up to 115 miles of range in 15 minutes. This is due to the lower efficiency of model X (smaller area per kWh) compared to model S. </li>
</ul>
<p>  The new stations are rolled out after several months of testing in a closed beta that allowed a selection of early access program owners to access The V3 test stations in Fremont, California, and at the Tesla Hawthorne Design Studio in Southern California. Don't expect all Supercharging stations to be upgraded overnight, as the new drives require new hardware and backend infrastructure upgrades. Tesla will roll out the new V3 stations in North America on a scale in the third quarter and in Europe in the fourth quarter. </p>
<p>  Tesla's Supercharging V3 (aka Nanocharging) introduces a brand new charging structure. Where version 2.0 shares a single 150kW backbone over two charging sockets (A / B stations), the new architecture goes up to a 1MW backbone. That's right – 1 megawatt, guys! The MW stream is then split between 4 stations each receiving a 250kW dedicated feed. </p>
<p>  In addition to hardware upgrades, Tesla uses creative software solutions to allow multiple drivers to recharge on each drive per day. It was just one example of how Tesla has used software to improve charge rates without having to use extra capital.
