Hopcat changes the name of its award-winning fries.
Hopcat announced Tuesday that their fries will no longer be called Crack Fries. Here's info from HopCat:
Today we are announcing plans to change the name of our Crack Fries. Be sure that the recipe and ingredients are not changed, just the name.
Our vision to create an inclusive company that supports our communities shows love to our team and best service our guests are not compatible with continued use of the Crack Fries name.
We chose the name more than 1[ads1]1 years ago as a reference to the fries's addictive quality and their cracked pepper seasoning, regardless of the substances negatively affected. We were wrong.
The epidemic and the persistent effect on those that it affects are not fun and never were.
As we grow up as a company, we have become aware that in order to make light of this substance and addiction, our values for inclusion and community contradict. We would like to thank our guests, employees and community members who helped us to come to this realization and regret the pain the name brought to others.
Transition to new name does not occur overnight. A comprehensive menu print in mid-January will reflect the change. We will also need time to update all other materials, including online menus, training documents and campaigns.
We are grateful for the support we have received over the years and your love for our fries. While we know, it will take time to get used to this change, we are confident of our decision. It's not just right to do it, it reflects who we are.
Hopcat's fries have become one of the most popular dishes in Michigan, even with an annual dining competition to celebrate.
