Homes are now usually sold within a week, forcing buyers to take risks

American home buyers have to throw themselves out faster than ever to reach an agreement, forcing many of them to make quick decisions about which house to buy and how much to pay.

Home sales between July 2020 and June 2021 were on the market for a median period of just one week before going under contract, according to a survey released Thursday by the National Association of Realtors. It is down from three weeks a year earlier and marks a record low number of data back to 1989.
