Henry Avocados recalled in 6 states of listeria concerns
The recalled products included the California-grown conventional and organic avocados. They were packed at Henry Avacado's California plant and distributed to six states: Arizona, California, Florida, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Wisconsin. Henry Avocado, a family owned and managed company, began packing into this facility at the end of January 201[ads1]9 and each shipment is subject to the recall.
Listeria bacteria especially apply in pregnant women because they can cause abortion, stillbirth, premature birth or life-threatening infection in newborns. Others who are susceptible to listeria infection are elderly and individuals with impaired immune system.
Symptoms of listeriosis include fever, muscle pain, headache, stiff neck, confusion and loss of balance. Patients may experience diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms, as well as convulsions. It can be treated with antibiotics.
Henry Avacado said it is contacting his end customers to confirm that the recalled products have been withdrawn from the shelves. The company recommends consumers to check the stickers on their avocado. The recalled products have "Bravocado" stickers. Henry Avocado organic products do not carry the "Bravocado" mark on the sticker. Instead, these products are labeled "organic" and include "California" on the sticker. If so, retailers can identify Henry Avocado organic products with the bar code on the stickers.
Henry Avocado encourages consumers to waste or return the products to the place they were purchased for reimbursement.
"We voluntarily recall our products and take every possible measure to ensure the safety of consumers who eat our avocados," said Phil Henry, president of Henry Avocado, in a statement. The company said it is fully cooperative with federal and California healthcare professionals to facilitate effective and complete recall of these avocados.
Avocado imported from Mexico and distributed by Henry Avocado is not subject to recall and may continue to be sold and consumed.
