Hands-on with new 2019 iPhone 11 cases with square camera [Video]

Yesterday I received a special package in the mail all the way from Shenzhen, China. The inside was three prototype cases for Apple's upcoming 2019 iPhone series.

These new iPhones, possibly called the iPhone 11, the iPhone 11 Max and the iPhone 11R, will include a new camera array on the back according to reports from multiple sources.

How do the new iPhone 11 cases compare with today's iPhone models like the iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR?

If the design of these cases is based on genuine iPhone hardware overview, then all three Apple's new phones, not just the high-end models, will include a new square camera in the upper left corner.

Reports have suggested that the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max will track a new three camera setup in this house, along with a flash module. The more budget-friendly iPhone 11R will go from the simple camera found on its predecessor to a more capable dual-camera series.

Report go on to suggest that Apple will use the extra camera on the iPhone 11 and 11 Max to house a new super wide 12 megapixel camera , similar to what we have seen from Samsung's Galaxy S10 flagship smartphones. Reports also show that the new lenses will adopt a particularly black coating to make the square camera appear more aesthetically pleasing.

An interesting aspect that I found while exploring these issues with Current Hardware was how the nut button, side button, and volume buttons adjusted.

If these cases are correct, the iPhone 11 Max will have a damper switch, Page and Volume buttons slightly lower than they are on current iPhone XS Max hardware . On the other hand, these buttons fit perfectly when testing the iPhone XR in the upcoming iPhone 11R case.

Earlier CAD-based renderings have suggested that the iPhone 11 will include a newly developed stump switch, so perhaps this change is there to accommodate this new design. Or maybe Apple thinks moving the buttons a bit down on such a large device provides a more ergonomically friendly experience.

Of course, all this is subject to change, but case manufacturers have a great incentive to be early – and to be right – with upcoming iPhone cases and accessories.
