Great Hill Partners agrees to purchase Gizmodo Media Group

Private equity company Great Hill Partners has agreed to purchase Gizmodo Media Group from Univision Communications Inc., the companies say, and terminated Spanish-language broadcasters to English-language digital media.

James Spanfeller, former chief executive officer of Forbes.com and president of consumer magazines at digital publisher Ziff Davis, becomes CEO of G / O Media Inc., a new company created from the assets. Gizmodo Media Group includes sites Gizmodo, The Onion, Jezebel, Deadspin and Lifehacker.
