Google, GM, and more than 300 other companies are launching the Renewable Energy Purchase Alliance

Google, GM, Facebook, Walmart, Disney and more than 300 other companies have launched the Renewable Energy Visitor's Alliance (REBA), an organization that aims to make renewable energy purchases easier for big buyers.

The alliance wants to create "an elastic carbon-free energy system where every organization has a simple and cost-effective way to buy renewable energy."

REBA has set a goal of "bringing more than 60 gigawatts of new renewable substances online in USA by 2025," which would have a serious impact on renewable energy in the country. To put it in perspective, it is almost equal to the total solar capacity currently installed in the United States

. A REBA chart shows that renewable energy savings for businesses have hit 6.53 GW in capacity last year, and nearly 1[ads1]6 GW over the last five years. Production on site and agreements with operating facilities were excluded from the count. (A report earlier this year claimed that companies bought 13.4 GW of pure power last year, with 8.5 GW from US PPA.)

Going from 16 GW to 60 GW by 2025 requires big growth – Electrek-confirmed REBA's goal Includes existing corporate renewables – but bringing these many big companies into the board can make it possible. REBA CEO Miranda Ballentine said,

"Never before has such a diverse group of organizations, from every industry, gathered to form a connection with a single, market-focused, mission-driven vision of a zero-carbon energy future."

Besides Google and GM, others Companies listed in REBA's "Leadership Circle" include Facebook, Johnson + Johnson, Disney, Salesforce, Citi and a number of energy companies, including First Solar, EDF Renewables and Distributed Sun. REBA's website provides more information about the Alliance, which goes beyond the largest companies:

"REBA is a national membership association that supports pure-energy stakeholder stakeholder transaction: buyers, developers, and renewable energy service providers. REBA membership is available to all foreign energy buyers, in addition to cleaning energy producers and other service providers committed to the zero-carbon energy future. "

Electrek's Take

REBA has also expressed its desire to" expand the number of organizations that buy pure power from dozens today to tens of thousands. "This goal, along with the Alliance's goal of adding 44 GW of new renewable energy sources to turn 60 GW by 2025, can be a serious driver and indicator of the ongoing green energy transition.
