Google employee learned she was fired
A former Google employee has documented the moment she learned she was being laid off by the tech giant. In a video uploaded to YouTube and TikTok, Nicole Tsai, who was a presenter at Google, revealed that she found out she had been fired when she woke up to an “ominous”[ads1]; text message from her boss and accessed the company. properties were cut off.
“I rushed downstairs to find I had lost access to pretty much everything. I couldn’t log into my email or check my calendar,” Tsai said in the YouTube video titled “Day in my life being laid off at Google”. “I called my boss back and we just sobbed over the phone because she also found out about my layoff for the first time today too,” she added.

The former Google employee said she spent most of the day crying and scrolling through LinkedIn to read about other employees who were also affected by the layoffs. She said she started getting calls from her colleagues, as well as discovering who else had been let go.
“I think the worst thing is that it seems like no one was consulted on this decision and everyone just found out about the layoffs at the same time. It just felt like a really bad game of Russian roulette,” Tsai said in the video. “There was no consistency to who was let go. It wasn’t performance-based either, so it just felt very random,” she added.
At the end of her video, Tsai also stated that she felt “so tired of being sad” that she decided to visit Disneyland to lift her spirits. She also said that she is not sure what she wants to do next.

Meanwhile, according to her LinkedIn page, Tsai had been working at Google since July 2021. In her post, she said she was “completely blindsided” after finding out she was let go, but added that “there is some comfort to know I’m not the only one”.
Google announced last week that it is laying off 12,000 employees. Some of the employees realized that they lost their jobs when they could not access the systems. CEO Sunder Pichai has emphasized that the cuts were made after careful consideration. He also stated that Google will “support” employees as they look for other opportunities.
