Game, Set, Match – Elon Musk represents trust in Tesla's position in autonomous vehicles

In this article I will mark the points Elon Musk and Lex Fridman made in a recent YouTube video on Artificial Intelligence and gives you the time stamps for the various topics in the video. For more context, we also published an overview of the video on Friday.

Lex Fridman is a researcher with a doctorate in computer technology dealing with human-centered artificial intelligence. You know who Elon Musk is. CleanTechnica has many articles on autonomous vehicles, and I have written two myself on Tesla's new neural network chip and its strategy towards Waymo.

Screen capture from[19659005] Lex Fridman has recently been in the news when he published a paper that concluded that Tesla drivers are doing a good job of remaining vigilant while monitoring their Teslas on Enhanced Autopilot.

  • 0:00 – Introduction by Lex
  • 3:15 – Elon says that in the future any car that does not have autonomy will be as useful as a horse. "
  • 3:50 – Autonomous cars are worth 5 to 10 times as much.
  • 4:20 – The car's display is a health check of the car's perception of the outside world.
  • 5:40 – Lex asks if Elon will show The computer's insecurity Elon responds to the fact that there are two troubleshooting views, an enlarged reality where it draws boxes around objects and marks what it thinks they are, and another more complicated view, and they do not think these debugging views would be useful to consumers.

  • 14:50 – What Elon thinks is "Very in-depth and we emphasize the upcoming investor day" is that the cars that are currently being produced will be capable of "full self-driving" with just one update over the air. Of course, Elon has said this for almost 3 years, and the progress toward this goal was quite slow first.
  • 15:20 – You buy a valuable resource.
  • 16:10 – People like Autopilot today for highway driving. Tesla just needs to improve it so it works on the surface surfaces. The cars need to recognize lights, complex crosses and complex parking spaces.
  • 17:45 – How long must we keep our hands on the wheel? Elon believes regulators will approve once the probability of crashes, injuries and deaths is 200% better than human drivers. I think Elon is optimistic. I think regulators want the system to be at least 10 times safer than a human, and this will be a big blow over the next few years.
  • 20:00 – Elon says regulators follow the press and Tesla generates a lot of pressure. There are 40,000 deaths a year with cars, but each Tesla crash is a cover page headline.
  • 21:00 – Lex explains the study of 18,000 emancipations where he found drivers were aware.
  • 21:40 – Elon believes human alertness will quickly become a point because the system is so much better than a human being, man's input can actually damage security.
  • 22:40 – Elon exemplifies that human lift operators have been completely replaced by automated elevators, and now it will damage the safety of allowing human entry to the elevator (beyond pushing the button).

  • 27:10 – Elon asks Elon about the latest inc ident where they tricked a car into entering the path of oncoming traffic. Elon said that neural networks are basically mathematics mathematics, that hacking requires very sophisticated knowledge, and that his team will find it easy to spot the matrix slots.
  • 28:20 – People have no idea how neural networks work.
  • 28: 50 – We lack some ideas for having general intelligence, but it soon comes across us.
  • 29:50 – Game, Set, Match – Elon is sure Tesla is well ahead of the competition to build the world's best self-propelled car, but he acknowledges: "I could go wrong."
  • 31:00 – Can a machine love you? Elon says if you can't tell, so can it. Perception = Reality. Elon channels Keanu Reeves in his famous "Red Pill" or "Blue Pill" scene of the 1999 movie The Matrix when Lex asks Elon what he would ask the creator of the simulation, what question would he ask? "What is outside the simulation?"

Clearly Elon feels he has a winning hand in using artificial intelligence to produce self-driving cars. It is also easy to reject their claims as a conviction, but after returning from the Falcon Heavy launch, I find it useful to consider what Elon has done in that industry. Elon is not a trained rocket scientist, but has training in economics and physics and taught rockets alone. He watched what NASA had done over the past 40 years and said confidently he could make a rocket 10 times cheaper than the big NASA team. After 15 years in the business he has done so, and now his goal is more than 100 times cheaper instead of 10 times cheaper. Elon is often too optimistic about the pace of progress, but is rarely mistaken for his outrageous demands.
