Ford has said its new electric crossover has been “Mustang inspired” since last year's Detroit Auto Show . And with the official name, they really went there.
Battery powered performance crossover will be called Ford Mustang Mach-E, complete with pony logo and all. It's not as much "Mustang-inspired" as it is an official legitimate member of the Mustang family. Only one with high ride height, four doors and no internal combustion engine.
I wanted to make a "horse of a different color" joke here, but it's too damn obvious and I haven't got enough coffee yet anyway.
This car represents Ford's first truly modern attempt at an EV, and an EV crossover, it was announced in Detroit last year and was originally tipped to be called Mach 1 But after " a very strong reaction ," as Ford CEO Jim Hackett put it, the historic name was scrapped in favor of something new – in fact, many Angry Internet People wanted to give an EV people -over the same name as a Mustang performance alternative that spans decades.
But when it was called the Mustang Mach-E, and with the styling we've seen in spy pictures, Ford looks pretty unapologetically into the pony car's image when it dives into the electric the world .. It is certainly daring .
The car will be unveiled in full this Sunday at an event in Los Angeles just before the city's auto show. It will be streamed on YouTube Facebook Twitter and China's Autohome that night, and afterwards you will be able to reserve a $ 500 refundable security deposit.
