Ford under criminal investigation for miscalculation of vehicle emissions

In February, Ford launched its own emission test practice survey by asking employees who discovered disagreements in the results. Whistleblowers believe that Ford may have miscalculated "road load" or factors affecting a car while traveling. It includes aerodynamic drag and tire resistance. A laboratory test that does not accurately represent the forces that a vehicle would encounter along the way could lead to better fuel economy projections, and therefore suggest that cars emit less pollution than it actually does.

In addition to the Internal Investigation, Ford has also flagged the Environmental Protection Agency and is working on the California Air Resources Board to help resolve the issues. The proactive steps seem to jive with the fact that Ford did not intentionally attempt to skirmish, but just made the mistake of calculating the numbers.

Ford is not the only company that is currently facing a discharge investigation. Daimler, the parent company of Mercedez-Benz and Fiat Chrysler, are also dealing with criminal probes, although both companies are accused of using defeat equipment and software to make cars seem cleaner than they actually do.
