On Thursday, Fiat Chrysler said it would eliminate a shift at Windsor, Ontario, the minivans building facility, resulting in a loss of 1,500 jobs.
The Italian-American automaker said in a statement that the elimination of a shift, which comes into force on September 30, was to cope with slowing global demand. The company said it would offer retirement packages to qualified employees and try to place indefinitely hourly staff in open positions. Earlier this week, the Canadian media reported that Fiat Chrysler would run out of plant for two weeks in April, the third time this year the plant has been temporarily shut down.
