Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp went down (again)

We have asked Facebook if it can comment on the power outage.

There have been a number of problems across the services in recent months, with roots in everything from server configurations to the aforementioned media services. It is not clear why they have picked up after a long period of relative stability. However, Facebook has continued to grow rapidly in recent months, with 2.4 billion monthly active users in addition to 2.7 billion people using the combined apps (including Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger) over a similar period. There is a lot of demand to cope, even for a company with a huge infrastructure.
