FRANKFURT, June 20 (Reuters) – The risk of an abrupt correction in Europe’s financial and housing markets is high, said European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde on Monday.
“The risks to financial stability have increased markedly since the beginning of this year,” she said in her capacity as chair of the European Systemic Risk Board, the EU’s watchdog for financial risk.
“While the correction in property prices has so far been orderly, the risk of a further and possibly sudden fall in property prices remains serious,” she said.
