Elon Musk's plans for 2019 can include a Tesla pickup truck prototype – TechCrunch
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has driven the idea of an all-electric pickup truck many times over the last two years. Now he's back on it, this time with a teaser that Tesla can have a prototype to uncover in 2019.
Musk mentioned on Twitter's wish to produce a pickup in April 2017 before the first Model 3 sedans had been handed over to customers and the CEO had gone into production hell. At that time, Musk tweeted that a pickup truck would be unveiled for 1[ads1]8 to 24 months. The timeline is sync Music's last tweet.
Musk picked up the pickup truck on Twitter again in June 2018, which was described as a derivative tactic when the company attempted to hit an important production target for model 3.
Of course, it should be noted that a prototype is not the same as a production car, nor does it give clues when such a truck would make it customers' hands. A prototype would also raise other questions, especially where Tesla would develop and assemble these trucks. Teslas Fremont, California plant, where Model S, Model X and Model 3 are manufactured, can not accommodate a fourth vehicle. The company is building other facilities, but it is unclear whether there is room for the kind of tools and assembly lines needed for mass production.
The car manufacturer will meet competition from the world's gas-powered trucks, which are among the best-selling vehicles in North America, as well as beginner Rivian.
