Elon Musk spoke to CERN about building tunnels for the large Hadron Collider successor
Scientists have an ambitious new plan to explore the mysteries of the universe, and Elon Musk can be there to help.
Tesla's CEO said on Twitter that he was approached by the research organization CERN, which houses the world's largest particle accelerator. Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is known for facilitating the discovery of Higgs Boson.
Musk said CERN's director, Fabiola Gianotti, talked to him about his tunnel company that could dig tunnels for a new particle accelerator, which would be four times larger than (LHC). Musket's Boring Company is an infrastructure company that mainly focuses on building new tunnels to ease traffic congestion.
Musk said that Boring Company could help save billions of euros.
CERN announced a design report for a new particle collider, called Future Circular Collider (FCC), on Monday.
The FCC will be about four times the size of the LHC, which runs for 27 km (just under 1[ads1]7 miles) under Switzerland.
Here is a video of the new design:
A spokesman for CERN confirmed Business insider as director Fabiola Gianotti met Elon Musk at the Royal Society in July last year.
"In light of projects for future major accelerators, CERN is always open to new, cost-effective technologies that can lead to implementation, including tunnels needed," the spokesman said.
Musk founded the Boring Company in 2016, and the company unveiled its first test tunnel in December, and its tunnel equipment currently makes about 14 times slower than a snail – although Musk said the launch party for the tunnel, "Aspirationally, we should be a little faster than a snail. "

The plans of the FCC are not yet set in stone. "CERN seriously considers a big collider to take over when the LHC will stop operating around 2035-2040," said the spokesman. "Given the time scale of such projects, a decision will be made over the next few years."
