Elon Musk freaks out about & # 39; advanced AI & # 39; and its manipulation of social media

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk have made it clear that he believes artificial intelligence is "the greatest risk to mankind," even going so far as to say it could lead to World War II. Musk took his caution to another level on Thursday, noting that "advanced AI" will be used to manipulate social media.

"If advanced AI (beyond basic robots) has not been used to manipulate social media, it will not be long before it is," Musk tweeted Thursday morning. He followed it by tweeting that anonymous bots need to be investigated

It's unclear what caused Musk to tweet about anonymous bots, accounts created on social media that are often difficult to trace back to a Russia's Internet Research Agency was indicted in 201[ads1]8 for creating bots to spread upheaval and misinformation campaigns during the 2016 US presidential election.

Though Musk, 48, ha r has been fighting against technology lately, he is working to put humans on par with AI, which he has previously said will turn humanity to "everything" by 2030 or 2040.

In a November 2018 interview, Musk hinted that Neuralink, a neurotechnology company he co-founded, wants to "redefine what future people will be." The goal is to help mankind "achieve a symbiosis of artificial intelligence and to achieve a democratization of intelligence so that it is not monopolistically held by governments and large corporations."

By doing so, Musk believes it can help even the playing field with digital intelligence, which he believes "will exceed biological intelligence by a significant margin."
