Elon Musk asks Twitter if he will sell his Tesla shares worth 21 billion dollars

The world’s richest man Elon Musk posted a poll on Twitter on Saturday asking if he would sell 10% of his Tesla shares.

This comes after he had said that he could face a huge tax bill in the coming year, and the only way to pay taxes is to sell shares since he has no cash. He said on Twitter, “Note, I do not take cash salary or bonus from anywhere. I only have shares, so the only way for me to pay taxes personally is to sell shares.”

He added more with reference to the billionaire tax proposed by the Democrats. He said, “A lot has been done lately of unrealized gains as a means of tax evasion, so I propose to sell 10% of my Tesla stock.”

Elon Musk̵[ads1]7;s Twitter poll received over 2 million responses in seven hours, and 55 percent of respondents approved the proposal to sell the shares. Musk has said he will do what the result of the poll turns out to be.

Here is the Twitter poll:

In addition to being Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk also owns around 170.5 million shares in the company. If he sells 10 percent of his shares, it will amount to about $ 21 billion based on Friday’s close.

Musk had recently challenged the UN that he would donate $ 6 billion if they gave him a good enough strategy. This came after David Beasley, director of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), told CNN that a one-time payment of 2% of Musk’s fortune or other billionaires could solve global hunger.

In a response to a tweet by Dr. Eli David, one of the founders of a company called Deep Instinct which was a screenshot of the CNN article mentioning Beasley, Musk tweeted: “If WFP can describe on this Twitter thread exactly how $ 6 billion will solve world hunger, I want to sell Tesla shares right now and do it. “
