Economic data from China, consumption misses forecasts as recovery worries rise


China’s economic recovery is losing momentum after an initial burst in consumer and business activity early in the year, prompting calls for more policy stimulus to boost growth.

Official data on Tuesday showed that industrial production, retail sales and fixed investment grew at a much slower pace than expected in April. The numbers were disappointing, although the low baseline from last year, when Shanghai was under lockdown, helped boost the data.
