Market players are still focused on China-U.S. trading news, amid some concerns about plans to sign a trade deal in the coming weeks. His comments followed news earlier last week, from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce where they said both sides had agreed to cancel existing tariffs in phases.
On Tuesday, President Trump will speak at the New York Economic Club where he could provide clues to the status of US-China trade talks.
Hong Kong instability is also on investors' radar. Hong Kong's main index, Hang Seng, rose fractionally on Tuesday. This, after dropping 2.5% on Monday amid further protests.
On the data front, the calendar is thin, with only the National Federation of Independent Business optimism survey at 6am ET.
