Dow climbs as bank shares rise, Nasdaq lags behind




US stocks were mixed in the afternoon trading as investors rotated to finance and continued to reduce growth names.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average reduced its losses by 96 points or 0.3%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite reduced their losses, but remained a fraction lower.

Bonds continued to rise. The yield on the 10-year treasury rose to almost 1.8%, a two-year high. Financial equities rose as higher returns bode well for banks.

In economic news, non-farm wages increased by 199,000 in December less than the 400,000 economists expected, even though unemployment fell to 3.9%. “Leisure and hospitality, in professional and business services, in production, in construction and in transport and warehousing” added workers according to the Ministry of Labor.

The movement hits crypto-related exchange traded funds and stocks.
