Disney Plus streaming service: Release date, price, show and movie to expect

Disney is betting on its 2019 streaming service called Disney Plus, and it began to put their cards on the table this week. In a three-hour event Thursday, Disney released the release date, award, and movies scheduled for its Netflix competitor.

On an investor day at the company's Buena Vista studios in California, Disney CEO Bob Iger informed a presentation that included the demo of the Disney Plus app, trailers and backstage recording of exclusive shows such as the Star Wars TV series Mandalorian . It even threw a new Avengers: Endgame clip for good measure.

Much of the premium original programming planned for Disney Plus is looking into the company's major budget franchises like Marvel and Star Wars. Some show ̵[ads1]1; like live action, big-budget The Mandalorian – has completed filming and will be available at the launch. Other Marvel Spinoffs, like a show based on Avengers character Loki and WandaVision featuring Scarlet Witch and Vision will debut in other years.

What is the Disney streaming service?

The Disney Plus streaming service will be a competitor of video streaming services as Netflix. It's free to advertise, and customers pay a monthly fee to access a large library of Disney's and Fox's heritage teams, as well as new exclusive TV shows, movies, and documentaries.

Disney's other streaming services – Hulu and sports-focused ESPN Plus – will run on the same technology platform so you can subscribe to them with the same password and credit card information. Disney plans for all three to be individual subscriptions, but it said it's likely to pack them at a discount.

Hulu will be where Disney streams more adult-oriented fare. For example, Hulu is where a new Marvel collection of adult animated series will stream, and it is likely where Deadpool-like content will live now, when Disney owns Fox. Hulu will continue to stream content from three of the broadcast networks and their own original series, such as The Tailor & # 39; s Speech and Castle Rock . When is the release date?

You wait even longer than Avengers: Endgame for this. Disney says it will start November 12.

The time is strategically smart. For one, Disney Plus piggyback on marketing for all Disney's big budget movies can be released for the holidays – Frozen 2 hits theaters on November 22 and Star Wars: Episode IX will be released December 20.

But Netflix has also shown that the last couple of months of the year is when it tends to get some of the biggest sight. The Bird Box film says it was seen by more than 80 million accounts in its first release month, released on December 21st. Bright, his fantasy crime, with Will Smith, was the company's most watched movie before the Bird Box. It was released December 13th.

How much does it cost?

Disney said the service would cost $ 7 a month, or $ 70 a year. The award submits Netflix's $ 13 monthly fee for the most popular US plan, allowing you to stream to two different devices at the same time in high definition.

Disney Finance Director Christine M. McCarthy suggested that the Disney Plus award could increase as the service progresses, calling the $ 7 monthly prize an "initial" price. What gadgets will stream it?

Disney Plus will support streaming to phones, tablets, computers, connected TVs and streaming media boxes, the company said. The company specifically encouraged the support of Roku TV and Playstation 4. Its presentation pages featured images of Chromecast, Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV, but the company has not yet specifically confirmed these devices. But overall, the company's goal is to have broad-based unit support for Disney Plus at its launch in November.

Exhibitions and movies: What can I watch?

Disney Plus will include content from the Disney brand itself, Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars and National Geographic. It will also integrate programming from Fox – all 30 seasons of The Simpsons will be on Disney Plus from day one, and several titles like The Sound of Music, The Princess Bride and Malcolm in the Middle will join in the first year.

Disney Plus will be the only place you can stream all of Disney's theatrically released movies, with Captain Marvel at the launch and the rest of 2019 shifting later. Frozen 2, for example, will be streamable on the service next summer after the theatrical release in November. Disney Plus will also remember full movie libraries of Pixar, Star Wars and its Signature Series and Disney Vault lines with classic hand-drawn animated movies. And of course, the company is developing a huge slate of original, exclusive shows and movies for the service.

Large originals include The Mandalorian, a large budget series with Pedro Pascal about a bounty hunting gun that takes place five years after the events of The Return of the Jedi. A Star Wars prequel series based on Rogue One will star Diego Luna, who played Cassian Andor in the original movie.

And Disney has three live action series that draw the stars in their advanced Avengers movie in their own performances: a Loki series by Tom Hiddleston; Falcon and Winter Soldier with Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, and WandaVision with Elizabeth Olsen in their role as Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany reprising Vision.

Disney Plus will have original documentaries, reality shows, competition series, back-stage features, nature and adventure titles, animated programming – the list goes on.

Although all Disney movies will stream exclusively to Disney Plus, the company does not plan to debut any of its major budget images on the service. Unlike Netflix's so-called day-to-date approach, which releases most of its movies on large screens and streaming streaming services at the same time, Disney plans to run their tent movie films, like those in its Star Wars franchise ] courses in theaters before they become available with a digital subscription.

Disney will mostly disappear from Netflix by the end of 2019.

Since 2016, Netflix has been the first to watch Disney's films with a subscription. That deal meant that Netflix was in place for the largest US blockers over the past three years. The two films in 2017 and the three best films in 2016 and 2018 were all from Disney, and Netflix has been the place to bend them all.

But Disney decided to renew the Netflix agreement when it plotted its own competitor. From Disney's 2019 slate of movies, all the movies are destined for Disney Plus. That means Captain Marvel the first movie Disney released theatrically in 2019, becomes the first movie Netflix misses. It also means that Mary Poppins Returns should be the last Disney movie to have any kind of release window on Netflix.

However, Netflix's Marvel Defenders show is complicated. Netflix has released five original series based on Defenders characters in collaboration with Disney. In 2018, Netflix interrupted three of them: Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. So in 2019, interrupted Netflix the last two : The Punisher and Jessica Jones. Kevin Mayer, Disney's Disney Plus Director, said Disney Plus might revive the canceled performances. However, the terms of their original deal may limit Disney Plus from any revival to 2020 according to a report.

A third and now last season by Jessica Jones is still set to arrive on Netflix sometime in 2019. But after that all we know about the future of these characters Marvel Television chief Jeph Loeb plagues fans as the characters will continue in some shape. But the only thing that's certain about this right now is that it won't involve Netflix.
