Despite Trump saying no, Apple's Mac Pro tariff waiver requests are approved

Earlier this summer, Apple formally asked the Trump administration for a tax exemption for its new Mac Pro and some accessories. Trump responded in a tweet that Apple will not be granted exemptions for Mac Pro parts, saying "Make them in the US, no tariffs!" Despite those words, a new report says that Apple has received clearance from customs clearance for ten of the latest requests for Mac Pro components and some of the company's accessories.

As reported by Bloomberg 10 of Apple's 15 recent tariff exclusion requests have been approved by the U.S. Commerce Representative's office. Trump made headlines when he tweeted that Apple will not be granted any waivers, but the report notes that he later said "we'll fix it" and also "I think they're going to announce that they're going to build a plant in Texas. "

Since the news came out that the new Mac Pro is being built in China ̵[ads1]1; a move from the 2013 Mac Pro that was built next door – there has been no indication from Apple that it plans to build a plant in Texas. [19659003] The 15 tariff waiver requests include products that would otherwise be hit by the 25% tariffs Trump raised from 10% this month, the 25% going up to 30% customs on October 15.

Bloomberg got some details about what Mac Pro components and Apple accessories have received approval from t oll exclusion so far:

Duty Free Requests for General Exterior Fencing, Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad and some key Mac Pro internal components are approved, while requests for wheels and other components are still undergoing thorough review by USTR.

Apple's reason for the queries is that "there are no other sources for this proprietary, Apple-designed component."
