Churchill Downs Racetrack on Wednesday announced details of a $ 300 million renovation project that promises to "transform the first turn of the 190-acre facility and provide guests … never before imagined Kentucky Derby experiences," according to a news release. The release also touts new VIP experiences, including the construction of permanent stadium seating, a hotel and a historic racing machine (HRM) facility in the first turn of the race track, as well as a renovation project on Millionaires Row. The project should begin in December with an estimated completion by the end of 2021. We first reported on Churchill Down's plans in August. The 156-room, seven-story hotel will feature runway suites, all of which have private balconies and covered panoramic views of the entire course, as well as non-course rooms that will provide access to a party deck on the second floor to watch racing.
